Toyota unveiled the production version of the Scion iQ EV, the result of three generations of the FT-EV concept vehicle, in 2011. Toyota changed from its initial focus to provide 600 units of the iQ EV to the Japanese, USA and European retail markets in 2012 due to concerns about charge time and range in these markets. Instead, Toyota decided to deliver 100 units only to fleet and car sharing programs in 2013, with the first 30 units going to the University of California and another 30 after that to City CarShare in Pleasanton. Toyota marketed the Scion iQ as the Toyota eQ EV which was a tad longer at 3051mm.
